Because an Apple a Day… (Part 2)
Nitro!
The following tips will cater for the racer. These are more specific to the parts that a street racer needs to look into.
- Engine. This is your car’s power plant and the part that gets abused the most. Always check the engine for excessive wear and tear every 2 to 3 gallons of fuel or about 100 hours of running time. Check the pistons and sleeves also as they may require replacing.
- Ball Bearings. Keep these babies free from dirt and grime. Check these daily.
- Nitro two speeds. The bearings in its spur gear needs to be checked and lubed every 10 to 20 runs. Use quality grease to lube these up. A thin coat is enough so don’t overdo it.
- Brake Disc. Well-maintained brakes are your best bet in avoiding crashes, collisions, falling off a cliff, etc. It is important to check your brake disc and all other components DAILY. You don’t want to find out that they don’t work when you need them.
- Screws. All that speed and hard turns are sure to loosen up a few screws here and there. Screws hold your car together and when these come off your car will fall apart piece by piece. So to avoid being humiliated, always check your screws to make sure they remain tight and not stripped.
That about covers it! Aside from these tips, never forget that regular maintenance. Maintaining a car is not at all that difficult, really. These extra tips were added because you race. You put way much more stress on your ride than normal users, so extra attention is definitely required. But it doesn’t mean you don’t need basic maintenance. To be safe, check every nook and cranny of your car. Remember, every part is important. They have their role to play and if you want to keep your car running smoothly and free from problems, do your part in caring for it. Go to it then!
